From the seeds of a musical idea carefully tended grow the melodies, harmonies, and rhythms of each new composition into the blossoming of a new record. What starts out as a skeletal outline of a piece grows in many different directions, sometimes requiring thinning, pruning, or re-routing, pollination, watering, being left alone, then re-visited, and finally culminating in a finished performance.
ACOUSTIC GARDEN is such an undertaking. It grew from a variety of compositions that we had worked on privately or collectively. The idea of using piano on this recording gave us the opportunity to work with four remarkable pianists that live in our Puget Sound area: Tom Kellock, David Lanz, Nick Moore, and Jovino Santos Neto.
We grew a variety of songs all very peaceful in nature. They carry us across continents, time, and through an array of emotions. This project gives the listener a gourmet sampling of what we were able to cultivate in our own acoustic garden.
