Celebrating 30 years since the debut of the label's first record, Windham Hill is proud to release a 4-CD retrospective covering the only label that has truly defined a genre.

30 Years ago William Ackerman personally distributed vinyl copies of his newly recorded work and unknowingly launched one of the most successful independent record labels in the history of the music industry.  Windham Hill's music has a sense of timeless beauty, the albums' gallery images of natural vistas, even the logo - a cyclopean moon rising behind the serrations of evergreen trees - all conjure a modern Eden.

The label marked a unique epoch in modern music  Windham Hill inspired dozens of imitators, most of which have come and gone, but few offered the authenticity of those on  the label's roster.  And it was as much a lifestyle as a music, a soundtrack that would resonate for its fans the same way a Motown song or Beatles tune would resonate for an earlier generation.  Windham Hill Records was the Merchant Ivory of music, creating intelligent, thoughtful and often intricate moments, always touched with class.
