About the Artist
The Blackstone Singers, from Sweetgrass First Nation, Saskatchewan, Canada, are one of the elite pow-wow groups in North America. This group of Cree singers began performing and competing together in 1987 and took its name in honor of their Grandfather Blackstone. In 1996, Blackstone won the World Championship Pow-Wow held in Hartford, Connecticut. Since 1990, the Blackstone Singers have made over 20 recordings of their pow-wow songs and round dances. Ranking at the top in all major competitions and frequently serving as host drum, Blackstone's unique songs have made them one of the most popular and influential drum groups in North America.
